Link Crew

Link Crew is a “club” where upperclassmen gather together to help make underclassmen feel welcome. I interviewed a student, and teacher who both participate in link crew, just to see how much it’s helped, and impacted the incoming freshman and all of the people apart of this family.

I asked Mrs. Cooper (coordinator) 10 questions along with Payton Willenbrink (student). Below are their responses.

What is Link Crew?

(Cooper)

Link Crew is a high school transition program as positive role models, Link Crew Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school and help facilitate freshman success.

(Payton)

Link crew is an organization that helps freshmen become comfortable with the transition and changes from middle school to high school.

How Many Link Crew Members?

(Cooper)

We have around 120 Link Crew Leaders, and 15 Crew Coordinators.

Do You Think Link Crew Is A Necessity at West Clermont?

(Cooper)

I believe that link crew has had a great influence on West Clermont high school in the students involved.

(Payton)

It’s not necessarily a necessity but it really is a big help for freshmen.

Is This An Activity Where Students And Teachers Are Involved?

 (Cooper)

Yes, both students (freshman and Link Leaders) as well as teachers (Link Coordinators)

(Payton)

Yes, this past semester students decorating their teachers doors for the holidays as a competition and the teachers help to plan it.

Does It Cost Money To Join Link Crew, And If Not How Does One Apply?

(Cooper)

It does not cost any money to join link crew, and the application process begins in the spring.

(Payton)

No, you get an application at the end of the school year that explains who you are and why you should be in link crew.

Do You Accept Students Who Are Participating In Other Curricular Activities?

(Cooper)

We highly encourage that all of our link leaders are involved in as many extracurricular activities as they want.

(Payton)

Yes, the majority of our members are involved in at least one other activity.

Do You Have To Meet Certain Criteria To Join?

(Cooper)

The only criteria to be eligible for link crew is that you are a junior or senior in high school. Sophomores and juniors in high school may apply.

(Payton)

You have to be an upcoming upperclassman (juniors and seniors).

Are You Hoping To Continue Link Crew Until Next Year?

(Cooper)

Yes, we think Link Crew will be around for many more years to come.

(Payton)

Yes, this was our first year so if we adjust some things I think it can be even better.

What Are Your Intentions In Link Crew?

 (Cooper)

We would like our freshmen to have an easy transition from middle school to our large high school won’t be able to “link up” with upperclassman.

(Payton)

To allow freshmen to be as comfortable as they can here.

Is Link Crew A Year Long Activity?

(Cooper)

Yes it is.

(Payton)

Yes.

After asking them both the same questions we can easily tell how important Link Crew is to not only the teachers, but the students, and with the amount of students joining, and actually being involved I’d easily  say it’s definitely something West Clermont needs.
