The 2019 National Football League combine started on Tuesday, February 26th and ended on Monday,
March 4th. All of the college prospects that attended were evaluated and were able to perform in
Indianapolis to the best of their ability to have NFL teams scout them. Some prospects had standout
performances from each skill position that have people talking about them. From the tight ends position
T.J. Hockenson from Iowa, Noah Fant from Iowa and Irv smith Jr. from Alabama. These three prospects
all had good performances for the tight ends at the combine.
T.J. Hockenson ran a 4.7 second 40 yard dash and had a 37.5 inch vertical jump with a 10 feet,
3 inches in the broad jump. He was also able to get 17 repetitions on a 225 pound bench press. T.J.
Hockenson is 6-5, 250 pounds and is considered to be a “preeminent blocker amongst the tight ends
in the draft”. Also with his ability to run routes and catch it has made many teams like him at the
combine this past week. People are saying he will be a top draft pick and will become a starter his
rookie season in the NFL.
Another Iowa tight end Noah Fant balled out during his NFL combine day as well. Noah Fant ran the
fastest 40 yard dash time out of the tight ends with a blazing 4.50 seconds. He blew away all the events
he did at making the best times and jumps for the tight ends. His ability to catch and run routes is also
a big impact on his game and will be having teams want him, he is predicted to be the first tight end take
in the draft and is also said to be a started his rookie season just like his teammate T.J. Hockenson.
Noah Fant was ranked the number one tight end.
Irv Smith Jr. was ranked third best at his position at the 2019 NFL combine. He tied for the third fastest
40 yard dash time for the tight ends at 4.63 seconds. He has a nice size at 6-2, 242 pounds and he got
19 repetitions of 225 pounds on bench. During the drills he showed he is a good route runner and can
catch really good. Scouters are saying he did what was expected from him during the combine and will
be a first round draft pick.
