Ted Bundy is one of America’s first well known serial killers. He was a killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered many girls and young women during the 1970’s. Bundy denied these crimes for more than a decade and finally confessed days before his execution to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978.
After the release of the tapes on Netflix, they just recently purchased Zac Efron’s New Ted Bundy film for 9 million dollars. Netflix acquired Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile to join the tapes of Bundy’s life and mind. The movie follows the life of Bundy through the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer and her struggle to accept the reality of her boyfriend’s true horrific nature. There is no set release date for the movie, however, it is expected to be released in the fall.
With it being said that Zac Efron is the star of the movie about this notorious killer, it has already received some criticism. People seeked to twitter stating that they are romanticizing a serial killer who murdered many women. However, it is said that Bundy was known for his good looks and normalness which is what he used to lure in his victims. Kathy Rubin who was a 20 year old sorority sister at Florida State University when Bundy came into her room at 3 in the morning beating her roomate with a club. Rubin stated that she didn’t have a problem with Zac Efron being the lead role as long as people understand that what they’re watching wasn’t a normal person. She also added “I believe that in order to show him exactly the way he was, it’s not really glorifying him, but it’s showing him, and when they do say positive and wonderful things about him … that’s what they saw, that’s what Bundy wanted you to see.”
