We all know the popular sports Football, Baseball, Basketball, and some others but what about the “Unpopular” sports. There are so many different sports in different countries that we don’t know about. Here are just a few of the wackiest sports I could find.
Number six on the weirdest sports list is “EXTREME Ironing”. Extreme Ironing is where adrenaline addicted people take their ironing boards and travel to remote locations, to just iron. That’s right. They just go to dangerous places and just iron clothes. According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau (EIU) Extreme Ironing is “The latest danger sport that combine the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity and the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.”
At number five, we have “Shin-Kicking”. The sport is exactly what it sounds like. Grown men run around in a closed circle, kicking each other in the shins. The goal of the sports is to knock your opponent to the ground and gain a point. This sports has been around for a while, going all the way back to the 17th century. It was one of the more popular events in the “Costwold Olympick Games”. The game has gained popularity over the past few years and now is bringing crowds of spectators numbering in the thousands.
Number four is a wacky one called “Ferret Legging”. Ferret Legging is a back woods, hill-billy sport where a group of people shove a Ferret down their pants. The last person to have a Ferret in their pants win. But do they really win though? Imagine all of the scars and bites they have. Why would anyone want to do that. The world record is five hours and thirty minutes. I feel like that isn’t that safe for the person or the animal.
Wife-Carrying comes in at number three. Like any other weird thing, Wife-Carrying was founded in Finland. It’s a competition where men carry their wife on their back while running through an obstacle course. They don’t just carry the wife on their back like a “Piggy Back Ride”, the wife actually hangs upside down with her legs wrapped around the husbands head. There has been an annual Wife-Carrying championship held in Finland since 1992. It’s basically a triathlon but while carrying someone on your back.
Everyone knows about Arm Wrestling, but not everyone knows about the famous sport of Toe Wrestling. Yes, at number two we have Toe Wrestling. Toe Wrestling is the same thing as Arm wrestling, but instead of using your arms you use your bare feet. As a sign of respect among the sport the opponents take each others shoes and socks off. They then proceed to try and pin the others foot. To no surprise the sport was made up from four drinkers in Ye Olde Royal Oak Inn in Wetton, Staffdorshire.
At number one we have Slam Ball. More specifically Nub Slam Ball. Slam Ball is where people stand in a circle and one in the middle on the ground. Then they have to hit the ball volley-ball style four times. Then on the fifth time the person slams the ball down onto the person that is sitting in the middle. If you miss then you have to sit in the middle. The last person standing is the winner. It’s pretty hard to win because if your in the circle, then you can catch the ball to reset the circle. This has to be one of my favorite sports on this list
