The West Clermont Wolves defeated the Walnut Hills Eagles on Friday September 22 at Walnut Hills High School by a score of 14-9. The game was projected as a close matchup but West Clermont was able to come out on top and secure their win for this week. After a three game losing streak, the Wolves were happy to find another victory, now putting their record at 2-3. They have had a successful history over the Eagles beating them last year 45-14. This loss dropped Walnut Hills’ record to 1-4. Touchdowns for West Clermont were scored by senior running back Jacob Kilgore for 5 yards, and senior running back Ryan Cann for 15 yards. Wolves kicker, Cameron Null was able to make both field goals for an extra point. Two of Walnut Hills nine points were from a safety when West Clermont quarterback Hunter Eads was penalized for intentional grounding in the Eagles end zone. West Clermont was able to hold their opponent to no points on the board until the third quarter when they got this safety. The Eagles did not score their first touchdown until the fourth quarter. Even though three of West Clermont’s starting defense were out due to injuries, junior, Devon Boykin, senior, Matt Lewis, and sophomore, Gage Bullock; the Wolves were still able to stop them.
When asking Wolves quarterback Hunter Eads his predictions of the game Friday evening, he responded, “I’m ready, I think it’s a must win for us and we need it to make the season go well. It’s going to be a tough battle and come down to five plays we either make or we don’t.” Eads played a prominent role in getting the team ahead. Another prominent role was played by Cody Samson when the senior had a pick in an early play of the game. Both teams were coming off of a loss this week hoping to find victory in this game. Walnut Hills previously lost to Milford 21-42 and West Clermont fell short to Turpin 16-19. Junior, Donte Turner Jr. for West Clermont was ejected from the game in the second half after being penalized for targeting. It is unclear when the free safety will be able to return.
