Nintendo is notable for their many achievements as a franchise, whether it be one of their many successful series like The Legend Of Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon, or their game consoles, the Japanese brand is a household name.
The brand made their first big hit with the NES 1985, and then in 1989 they revolutionized portable play with the Game Boy that sold nearly 120 units, then continuing on with the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and even returning back to make adjustments with the Game Boy Advance and Gameboy Color. Nintendo kept up against competitors like XBox and Playstation, and their sales never dropped, especially with the release of the DS in 2004 and Wii in 2006. Since those releases the 3DS, as well as the Wii U have made their way into millions of households, but now there is a new addition to the Nintendo family
2017 brought a competitor to the market, a console that connects both to your TV and works on the go. The Switch well outsold the Wii U in its few months of availability as compared to the 5 years that the Wii U was on the market, at 14.86 and 13.56 millions units sold respectively. The Switch has not outsold its predecessor, the Wii at 101.63 million, but its sales from 2017 make its promising contender for Nintendo to keep in its market. The console has brought 9 million sales with Super Mario Odyssey, 7.3 million with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2 had 4.9 sales and 6.7 million copies of The Legend Of Zelda: The Breath of the Wind, and not to mention the upcoming Pokemon, Kibry and Donkey Kong games in development
The Switch is a major success for the company as the Wii U was considered to be a fail after its discontinuation in 2017, Its even considered that it could replace the 3DS entirely, but Nintendo says that they will continue to sell alongside each other independently.
The Switch supports Amiibos, which are compatible figurines for Nintendo’s more recent consoles that provide extra in game opportunities and rewards once connected. Nintendo now offers demos for a wide variety of their games so you can give a good test run before you so generously donate your money to their cause. There is also an EShop where lesser well known indie games can be purchased, as well DLCs which are downloadable content that provide extra experiences in game. Nintendo is well known for multiplayer battle games, especially Super Smash Bros, and the switch is no exception to the trend, having games like Pokemon Tournament DX, Mario + Rabbids, Just Dance 2018, Fifa 18 the lesser known but just as fun to play Snipperclips & Stardew Valley, as well as the aforementioned Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Nintendo is no newbie to success, and the Switch being 2017 most exciting console release is certainly no surprise.
